The Danish word for "welcome" is "velkommen," and regardless of your own ethnicity, it applies to you and your family. That sense of hospitality and warmth will greet every visitor to the annual Danish Sisterhood Bazaar, sponsored by Thyra Lodge #19 in Tacoma, WA, on Saturday, Nov. 19.
"They even have a name for it," said the lodge's President Carol Olsen. "Hygge is the Danish spirit of coziness that has earned them the reputation as the happiest people on earth. Come and share the spirit."
The bazaar takes place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. inside the Scandinavian Cultural Center at Pacific Lutheran University, 12180 Park Ave. S. in Tacoma, WA, 98447. Both admission and parking (in PLU lots) are FREE. So are the smiles.

Olsen invites the public to experience the joy and anticipation of the holiday season, surrounded by trees decorated in the charming style of each Scandinavian country. PLU's Scandinavian Cultural Center's annual display of these Christmas trees is happily anticipated by visitors.
"Experience Danish coziness and hospitality in our large kitchen and dining area as our Danish cooks fill the air with the scent of aebleskiver (Danish donuts)," she said.

Vendors offering a wide variety of crafts and other goods will help you get your gift shopping done early and easily. For the children, there will be a table full of Legos (invented in Denmark) to entertain them. Hourly door prizes, raffles, and live Nordic style music add to the fun.
"Vendors and shoppers return each year to experience the laughter, friendship, and merry-making that is the Danish spirit," Olsen said. "Danes know how to celebrate the good things in life with good people, especially at Christmas time when the world’s darkness is filled with light."
Couldn't you use a break from seriousness? Come have a cup of coffee and a sweet treat while you shop in a festive atmosphere. You'll feel much better.
